Your health depends on the health of your gut microbiota

Votre santé dépend de celle de votre microbiote intestinal - Soin de Toi

The gut microbiota, formerly called "intestinal flora," plays a crucial role in our health. Your gut is home to billions of bacteria made up of 800 to 1,000 different species that live together in communities, the majority of which are beneficial to health.

This bacterial flora fulfills 4 major functions for health:

  1. Digestive

Undigested food (dietary fiber) in the small intestine is fermented by the microbiota in the colon, which releases fatty acids into the body that are involved in many of the body's reactions.

  1. Protection

The body is protected from potentially dangerous bacteria thanks to the barrier effect of the intestinal microbiota during digestion.

  1. Strengthens the immune system

The microbiota exerts a permanent stimulation on the immune system, almost 60% of our immune cells are contained in the intestine.

  1. Neurohormonal function

The intestine contains as many, if not more, neurons than the spinal cord, it transmits a large amount of information to the brain via the vagus nerve which informs it of the body's needs .

At least 80% of the vagus nerve fibers are one-way, from the abdomen to the brain, so the gut sends more information to the brain than the other way around.

The digestive system produces 95% of the serotonin present in the body which is diffused by the brain, it is a neurotransmitter which puts you in a good mood and chases away dark thoughts.

Bacteria in our gut secrete substances that affect the brain via the blood.

If the intestinal microbiota suffers from an imbalance, we speak of dysbiosis. Its impact on health varies from simple deregulation to various pathologies or even the temporary or permanent disappearance of the benefits of its major functions.

We can see the appearance of functional digestive disorders, allergies, chronic inflammatory bowel diseases, infections, obesity, behavioral disorders, mood disorders, depression as well as neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative pathologies such as Parkinson's disease, autism, etc.

To modulate the population of bacteria in the intestinal microbiota, enrichment with prebiotics and probiotics is essential.

This can be a food, an ingredient or a dietary supplement.

📍 Probiotics are live microorganisms that have positive health effects if ingested in sufficient quantities. They provide a complement of beneficial bacteria for the microbiota. These bacteria or yeasts have a limited lifespan in the microbiota (from a few days to 2 or 3 weeks).

📍 Prebiotics are elements that are not absorbed by the body and whose fermentation in the colon modifies the composition or activity of the microbiota. Prebiotics nourish and stimulate the multiplication or activity of certain bacteria in order to improve the functioning of the microbiota.

Just like probiotics, they are found in large quantities in fruits and vegetables or in supplement or ingredient form such as:

  • EM® Drink
  • Em-X Gold
  • Panaceo Med

✳️ Source of probiotic :

Clinical evidence of the benefits of probiotics in the prevention and treatment of many disorders and pathologies is accumulating thanks to the growing number of studies devoted to them.

⚠️ One thing is certain:
Our health depends on that of our intestines.
